About Yanisma Hair Salon

The Beginning

My passion for hair dressing and styling started from the time I became a teenager. As a young girl growing up in my native country Sierra Leone, I would get inspired watching others braid in intricate styles. Eventually, I started practicing how to braid on my younger siblings. After a lot of practice I mastered the art of braiding in our local styles and young girls and students around our area would ask me to braid them.

Leaving Sierra Leone

In 1990 the rebel war started in Sierra Leone. As the war progressed, we fled to Guinea and eventually I found myself in Conakry, the capital. I started helping out as a volunteer in a local hair salon. It was there that my passion for styling flourished. I began to dream about owning my own shop one day. After taking some courses in hairstyling I was able to open my own salon there, where we catered to both Guinean and Sierra Leonean nationals.

Canada

After migrating to Canada I started dreaming of becoming a professional hairstylist and owning my own salon here as well.  After working in different places in Toronto, practicing my craft and dreaming about my goal,  I decided to go to school in order to achieve my vision of independently running a business. I graduated with a diploma in Hairstyling and with the advice of my loving sister, who later became my business partner, we decided to open Yanisma Hair Salon. My dream has finally become a reality and our salon was born, a place for everyone, where client relations and family values are our top priority.

Today

The salon is located in a friendly neighbour hood and is open to all as we seek to provide the best hairstyles to every hair type, operating in a professional and friendly manner. Customer satisfaction has and always will be our primary focus.

 

I am so proud to have achieved my dream and with hard work, as well as the support and love from my family. We are happy to welcome you to the Yanisma family.
